ABSTRACT

This study aims to determine whether the cause of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane crash is related to the aircraft’s technical problems, such as the conflict of Angle-of-Attack which is the point of view between wings and air flow. Two deadly collisions from the same aircraft model in five months have sent ripples throughout the world. It is a big loss for Boeing, because two of Boeing’s major customers are China and Indonesia. The research method with a qualitative descriptive analysis approach, using interviews with samples from three Boeing 737 MAX 8 pilots from Lion Air in the form of depth interviews, and comparing several opinions from Boeing 737 MAX 8 pilots in the US and other countries. Research results, the weakness of the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, this system only protects airplanes from dangerous maneuvers such as climbing too high so that the stall, the MCAS system will set to lower the nose of the aircraft and adjust the Trim, so that the horizontal stabilizer rotates and lowers the nose of the Boeing as a producer should not make an alternative to the installation of sensor devices that make safety priorities a mandatory requirement for these sensor equipment.
